Description

A small, peaky hill offset from Hergest ridge.

Access and parking

  1. From Kington, take the road to Hergest Ridge, park at the end of the road (SO281567) and walk along the ridge and across the coll to take off (3km, 200m ascent).
  2. From the B4594 between Gladestry and Stanner turn off south at the phonebox at Burlingjob (SO250582). Drive through Lower Hanter, and turn left 75m after the gate. Follow the track around the side of the hill and park at the coll (SO254568).

Take off

Either from the summit or from the shoulder 60m down the slope (SO252572).

Top landing

Possible for experienced pilots on the summit, much easier to slope land.

Slope landing

Easiest on the shoulder, which is free of gorse!

Bottom landing

Tight with trees and powerlines. Avoid standing crops.

Notes

The quarry to the northwest is a good thermal generator.
